Candle light. It illuminates, flickers and enchants. In the Jewish religion, light encompasses so many meanings and is represented in so many festivals. Recently we celebrated Chanukah, the festival of light, where the light takes on a deeper miraculous meaning.
Every night for 8 nights, the kids would help light the chanukiah and sing the songs. The soft glow in the dark quiet after they had gone to bed was a gentle reminder for me of so many daily miracles, which I do not have time to think about on a daily basis. Every night for eight nights, these flickering candles made me stop for a brief moment amongst the chaos of life and reminded me to be grateful for so much that I take for-granted.
